How Many Days Do You Need in Copenhagen? 2-, 3- and 5-Day Plans

How many days in Copenhagen? Three days is the sweet spot: enough for the main sights (Nyhavn, the palaces, Tivoli, Christiansborg, Rosenborg, Christiania), a museum or two and a good food scene without rushing. Two days covers the highlights at a brisk pace. Five days lets you add day trips to Kronborg Castle, the Louisiana Museum and Malmö.

5 days: add day trips

  • Day 4: North Zealand: the Louisiana Museum and Kronborg Castle. See castles tour.
  • Day 5: Malmö and Lund across the Øresund Bridge, or Roskilde’s Viking Ship Museum. See day trips from Copenhagen.

How to make the most of limited time

  • Buy a City Pass for public transport if you’ll use it a lot (from DOT).
  • Book Tivoli, popular restaurants and tours ahead, especially in summer and December.
  • Use a private tour for your first half-day to get oriented, then explore on foot.
  • Arrive stress-free with an airport transfer, because the first hours set the tone.
