A taxi from Copenhagen Airport to the city centre costs about DKK 250–350 in 2026 and takes 15–25 minutes. Fares depend on the company, the time of day and traffic. Evening and weekend tariffs are higher, and every company sets its own prices under a national cap. The taxi rank is right outside the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. Cards are accepted everywhere.

Danish taxis are safe, clean and well regulated. You won’t be scammed at Kastrup the way you might be at some European airports. But since the taxi market was deregulated, “a taxi” doesn’t mean one price any more. Two cars at the same rank can charge noticeably different fares for the same trip. Here is how it works, what you should expect to pay, and when it’s worth booking something else.
How much is a taxi from Copenhagen Airport?
| Destination | Distance | Typical daytime fare | Evening / weekend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christianshavn | ~7 km | DKK 200–250 | DKK 230–290 |
| Indre By / Nyhavn / Kongens Nytorv | ~9 km | DKK 230–300 | DKK 270–340 |
| Central Station / Tivoli / Vesterbro | ~10 km | DKK 240–310 | DKK 280–350 |
| Frederiksberg / Østerbro | ~12–13 km | DKK 280–360 | DKK 320–400 |
| Hellerup | ~17 km | DKK 350–450 | DKK 400–520 |
These are estimates based on published 2026 tariffs of the large Copenhagen taxi companies. Your fare depends on the company, route and traffic. Always check the tariff card in the window or the price shown in the app before you ride.
How Danish taxi fares work
Every taxi charges a start fee, a per-kilometre rate and a per-minute rate, with higher rates in the evening, at night, at weekends and on public holidays. From 1 January 2026 the national maximum is DKK 94.68 to start, DKK 14.20 per km and DKK 473.44 per hour, but most Copenhagen companies charge well under that. Tariffs must be published and displayed in the car. The Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen) regulates the industry and licenses drivers. Estate cars and 6–8 seat taxis (“maxi taxis”) usually cost more per kilometre, so a family with big luggage will pay more than the table above suggests.

Where to find a taxi at CPH
Walk out of the Terminal 3 arrivals hall and follow the signs for Taxi. The rank sits in front of the terminal, with a marshal managing the queue at busy times. Only take a taxi from the official rank or one you have booked yourself. Don’t accept offers from drivers approaching you inside the terminal.
When the taxi queue gets long
Most of the time you’ll be in a car within five minutes. Queues build when:
- several long-haul flights land together (early morning and early evening waves);
- it’s raining or snowing and everyone who would have taken the metro wants a car;
- a major event is on (concerts at Royal Arena, conferences at Bella Center, Copenhagen Fashion Week);
- it’s after midnight on a weekend, when taxis are busy in the city.
In those windows, waits of 20–40 minutes are not unusual. That’s the time a pre-booked car saves you.
Booking a taxi in advance
You can pre-book through the apps of the main operators (TAXA 4×35, Dantaxi, Uber, Viggo and others) and sometimes get a fixed price quoted in the app. Pre-booking a regular taxi guarantees a car but usually not a meet & greet. You will normally meet the driver outside at the pickup zone and message them when you have your bags. More on the apps in Uber in Copenhagen: ride-hailing explained.
Taxi vs private chauffeur: an honest comparison
| Taxi | Copenhagen Services chauffeur | |
|---|---|---|
| Price to city | ~DKK 250–350 (≈€34–47), metered | €125 fixed (3 pax), €150 fixed (7 pax) |
| Price certainty | Varies with traffic and company | Fixed in writing before you travel |
| Waiting for you | No; you queue | Yes, in arrivals with your name |
| Flight delays | Not applicable | Tracked; no extra charge |
| Luggage help | Driver’s choice | Always |
| Vehicle | Whatever is at the front of the rank | The class you choose: EQS, S-Class, V-Class |
| Child seats | Not guaranteed | Free on request |
If you are one or two people with carry-on bags, a taxi is the cheaper choice and perfectly fine. If you are four or more, carry more than one bag each, travel with children, land late, or need a car waiting at a precise time, a fixed-price private transfer is worth it. A 7-seat V-Class at €150 often costs about the same as two taxis. See our detailed breakdown, private transfer vs taxi vs metro.

Taxis to the airport
For departures, order your taxi at least 30–45 minutes ahead in the morning peak. Rush-hour demand means cars can be hard to find at short notice between 06:00 and 08:00. Want certainty for an early flight? Our city-to-airport transfer is €120, fixed, with the car waiting outside your door at the agreed time.

Other ways from CPH
For the cheapest option, the metro (see Metroselskabet) and train cost DKK 30 and take about 15 minutes. The full breakdown is in how to get from Copenhagen Airport to the city centre. Heading to Sweden? Taxis to Malmö are expensive because of the bridge toll. A fixed-price transfer to Malmö includes it.
