Private Transfer vs Taxi vs Metro from Copenhagen Airport: The Real Cost Compared

Comparing private transfer vs taxi vs metro in Copenhagen: for one person with light luggage, the metro (DKK 30) wins easily. For two people, a taxi (about DKK 250–350) is usually the best value. From four people with luggage, a fixed-price private transfer (€150 for a 7-seat V-Class) often costs about the same as the two taxis you’d otherwise need, and it includes someone waiting in arrivals, flight tracking and luggage help.

Most comparisons of airport transport show a price per trip. That misses the point, because the metro is priced per person and a private car per vehicle. Below we work through realistic scenarios using 2026 prices, then look at what the price doesn’t show: time, effort and risk.

The prices we’re using

  • Metro or train: DKK 30 per adult (about €4). Up to two children under 12 travel free with each adult, according to DOT.
  • Taxi: about DKK 250–350 (€34–47) to the city centre, more in the evening (see VisitCopenhagen). Large luggage or more than four passengers needs an estate or maxi taxi, which costs more.
  • Private chauffeur (Copenhagen Services): €125 fixed for up to three passengers, €150 for up to seven, including VAT, waiting and luggage handling.

Scenario comparison

Travellers Metro Taxi Private chauffeur Best value
1 adult, carry-on ≈ €4 ≈ €34–47 €125 Metro
2 adults, 2 cases ≈ €8 ≈ €34–47 €125 (€62 each) Taxi or metro
2 adults + 2 children, 4 cases, pushchair ≈ €8 (with a lot of luggage on the train) €60–90 (estate car or two taxis) €150 V-Class (€38 each) Taxi on price; chauffeur on ease
4 adults, 5 cases ≈ €16 €70–95 (two taxis) €150 V-Class (€38 each) Close: two taxis vs one car
6 adults, 6 cases ≈ €24 €100–140 (two or three taxis) €150 V-Class (€25 each) Private chauffeur
Business traveller, company pays ≈ €4 ≈ €34–47 €125, VAT invoice Depends on policy and time value

Euro conversions are approximate. Taxi fares vary by company, time and traffic. Night rides with a chauffeur carry a 10% surcharge.

What the price doesn’t show

Time at the airport

The metro and taxis are fast once you’re moving. The hidden time is waiting: a taxi queue after several flights land together (20–40 minutes is common in bad weather), or struggling through the metro station with four suitcases and children. A pre-booked chauffeur is already in the arrivals hall when you walk out.

The last 200 metres

Metro stations aren’t always close to hotels. From Kongens Nytorv to a hotel in Christianshavn or Vesterbro can mean a 10–15 minute walk, or a change of line. Taxis and chauffeurs drop at the door.

Delays

If your flight is two hours late, the metro and taxis don’t care, and neither does your wallet. With a pre-booked transfer, the question is whether the company tracks your flight and waits for free. We do.

Certainty

A fixed price removes the “how much will this be?” feeling. For company travel, a VAT invoice in advance also removes expense-report friction.

Our honest recommendations

  • Solo or couple, light luggage, daytime: take the metro or train. You don’t need us.
  • Couple with big luggage, or arriving late: taxi, or a chauffeur if you want a guaranteed pickup.
  • Families of four or more: a private V-Class is at least as good value as two taxis, and far easier.
  • Groups of six or more: private transfer, clearly.
  • Business travellers going straight to a meeting: a chauffeur; your time is worth more than the difference.
  • Special occasions and VIP guests: a chauffeur, every time.

Frequently asked questions

Is a private transfer from Copenhagen Airport worth it?

For one or two people with light luggage, usually not; the metro or a taxi is cheaper. For families, groups of four or more, heavy luggage, late arrivals or business travel, a fixed-price private transfer is often similar in cost per person and much easier.

Is a taxi or the metro better from Copenhagen Airport?

The metro is cheaper (DKK 30) and just as fast to the centre. A taxi is better for door-to-door trips with luggage, especially if your hotel isn’t near a metro station.

How much does a private transfer from Copenhagen Airport cost per person?

A 7-seat V-Class costs €150 per car, so about €25 per person for six travellers and €38 for four.

Do private transfers charge extra for flight delays?

Copenhagen Services tracks flights and doesn’t charge for delays. Waiting time starts from your actual landing.

Can a family of five fit in one taxi in Copenhagen?

Only in a larger maxi taxi, which must usually be pre-booked and costs more. A 7-seat private V-Class is the simplest option for five with luggage.
