For business travel in Copenhagen, expect punctual, informal and flat-hierarchy meetings: first names, direct but polite talk, decisions by consensus. Companies cluster in Indre By, Hellerup/Tuborg, Nordhavn, Ørestad and Kongens Lyngby. The airport is 15–25 minutes from most offices, the metro is excellent, and a chauffeur by the hour is the easiest way to handle a day with several meetings across the city.

Copenhagen punches above its weight as a business destination. It is home to global leaders in pharma, shipping, renewable energy and design, plus UN City and a busy congress calendar at Bella Center. It’s also a city with its own business culture. This guide covers what first-time visitors most often ask us on the way from the airport.
Danish business etiquette
- Be on time. Punctuality is taken for granted; five minutes early is right.
- First names. Titles are rarely used, even with senior executives.
- Flat hierarchy. Everyone in the room is expected to contribute, and decisions are often made by consensus.
- Direct but modest. Danes say what they mean, dislike overselling and value understatement (look up Janteloven).
- Work–life balance. Offices empty by 16:00–17:00. Don’t expect evening meetings, and avoid July for big decisions, as it’s the main holiday month.
- Dress. Smart-casual is standard; suits are common in finance and law.

Getting around
For a single meeting near a metro station, the metro is fast and reliable. For a day with several meetings in different districts, hire a chauffeur by the hour (from €120/h): the car waits outside each meeting, you take calls in between, and your company gets one invoice. See hourly chauffeur hire, executive chauffeur service and roadshows. Arriving? See Copenhagen Airport transfers.

Where to stay
For client meetings in the centre, stay around Kongens Nytorv or Central Station. For congresses at Bella Center, AC Hotel Bella Sky is next door. More in where to stay in Copenhagen for business and best luxury hotels.
Dining with clients
Lunch is often light and quick; the classic Danish business lunch is smørrebrød. Dinner starts early (18:30–19:30). For an impressive client dinner, book a Michelin restaurant weeks ahead. See Copenhagen Michelin restaurants. Tipping isn’t expected: see tipping in Denmark.
Practical essentials
- Payments: cards everywhere; cash rarely needed.
- Currency: Danish krone (DKK).
- Connectivity: excellent mobile data and Wi-Fi everywhere; EU roaming applies.
- Entry: non-EU visitors register in the EU Entry/Exit System on arrival. See the European Commission for current rules.
- Business information: Wonderful Copenhagen covers meetings and congresses in the city.
