For child car seats in taxis in Denmark: children under 135 cm must normally use a suitable child restraint in cars. Taxis have an exemption that allows children to travel without one in the back seat if none is available. For safety, book a transfer that provides proper seats. Copenhagen Services fits infant carriers, child seats and boosters free of charge. For families of up to 7, a Mercedes V-Class from the airport costs €150.

Copenhagen is one of Europe’s most child-friendly cities. It has playgrounds everywhere, Tivoli, a world-class aquarium and zoo, harbour baths and a culture where prams and toddlers are welcome almost anywhere. Getting there and getting around with children takes a little planning. Here’s what parents ask us most.
Danish car-seat rules in brief
- Children under 135 cm must use a child restraint suitable for their height and weight in cars.
- Rear-facing seats must never be used in front of an active airbag.
- Taxis have a limited exemption, but “legal” isn’t the same as safe, especially on motorways.
Rules can change, so check the latest guidance from the Danish Road Safety Council (Rådet for Sikker Trafik). In practice: when you book any car, ask for child seats and give ages and weights.
Family airport transfers
A long flight with children ends at the arrivals hall. With a meet and greet transfer, your chauffeur is waiting with your name, takes the trolley, and the car has the right seats already fitted. The V-Class takes seven passengers with seven cases, a pushchair and car seats. See airport transfers and luggage transfers.

Getting around Copenhagen with children
- Metro and trains: step-free with lifts, and pushchair friendly. Up to two children under 12 travel free with each paying adult.
- Walking: the centre is flat and compact. Cobbles are bumpy for small pushchair wheels.
- Cargo bikes: the Copenhagen way. Rentals are widely available for confident cyclists.
- A car for day trips: for Legoland, castles and beaches, a car with a driver is easiest. See Copenhagen to Legoland.

Practical tips
- Most restaurants have high chairs, and many have children’s menus.
- Pharmacies (apotek) sell baby essentials; some are open 24 hours.
- Pack layers: even summer days can be windy by the harbour.
- Early flights? A pre-booked car at 05:00 beats waking children to wait for a taxi.
